Who we are
Hampel Group has grown from a single person – Simon Hampel, building websites for small businesses – to a small team of specialist IT staff and contractors building complex web applications for our clients and our own online business ventures.
We currently have two permanent staff:
- Simon Hampel – founder and CEO
- Job Alba – site administration and content management specialist
What we do
At Hampel Group, we specialise in building complex web applications. Our clients are primarily in the financial services industry and include real estate buyers agents, financial planners, accountants, consultants and analysts. We build everything from web presences to data driven analytical applications. Most of our solutions are heavily integrated into various cloud-based services.
We also have our own onlines business ventures, specialist sites providing financial services data analysis, dynamic online communities discussing real estate and financial services topics, and other niche content-focused sites.
How we do it
We build most of our solutions around one of several core frameworks:
- WordPress for basic content management and web presence
- XenForo for online communities and community-centric applications
- Laravel for data-centric applications
We build custom themes and plugins for WordPress and XenForo to suit the project we are working on and do a lot of integration work with online and cloud-based services to enhance the functionality of the applications we build.
Mobile technologies are rapidly becoming the most important aspect for any online solution, so a lot of our efforts now are focused on building responsive user interfaces which morph their layout to suit the nature of the device used to access them.
I started my IT career after university developing custom Lotus Notes applications and then moved on to delivering web-enabled collaboration solutions using Lotus Domino. I worked for a series of IBM business partners in Adelaide and Sydney and branched out into WebSphere and MQSeries (now WebSphere MQ) middleware integration technologies, before being head-hunted by IBM just after the Sydney Olympics in 2000, to join a new Technical Enablement Team. Our team specialised in educating IBM business partners around Australia and the Asia Pacific about new IBM products and technologies. Eventually I moved into technical sales for the WebSphere brand before leaving IBM in 2007 and launching my own business.
I have been building websites for over 20 years using a variety of technologies – now I focus on building web applications rather than sites with largely static content.
I live in Sydney, Australia with my wife Leanne and kids, my son Andres (born in 2008) and daughter Nicol (2011). When I’m not on my computer, I’m usually having fun with the kids or out riding on my mountain bike.
